Confederate States of America forms, 1860-1864.

The collection consists of Confederate States of America official forms. They include a letter patent, War Department passes, a tax in kind, and some forms from a Confederate hospital. The letter patent was obtained by Sandford A. Hickel for "a certain improvement in the art of tanning leather, which letters patent bear date the 18th day of June, 1863, numbered 179: and whereas, the said Hickel has conveyed one half his interest in said Patent to P.H. Thomason, of said county of Roane..." The blank Tax in Kind, form No. 2, was for the estimate and assessment of agricultural products... "the value of the portion thereof to which the Government is entitled, in accordance with the provisions of the Acts of Congress...approved Feb. 17th, 1864." The form was to be returned to the District Quartermaster on or before the first of January each year. The products listed included corn, buckwheat, rice, potatoes, fodder, sugar, molasses, cotton, peas, beans, and ground peas. The blank passes from the War Department were a Soldier's passport, a Negro passport, a Ladies' passport, and one each for the Central Railroad and the Fredricksburg Railroad and the Petersburg Railroad. The Guyton Hospital forms consist of a 30-day furlough, a vaccination certificate, notification of death, medical certificate, and application for leave of absence.
